Diploma
Course in Electronics with specialisation in Marine Electronics was introduced in the year
1995-96 with an intake capacity of 30 students under World Bank Assistsed Project. Later on a need was felt for changing the
nomenclature of the course to Diploma in Electronic & Communication
Engineering. The department has a staff strength of seven and
five well-equipped laboratories, viz.

The Present curriculum caters to the Electronics Engineering Industry at large. Field
visits form an integral part of the students academic activities. Project work
gives more emphasis on practical hands-on-training imparted to them. Some of our students are
employed in reputed companies like Elcome Marine, D-Link, Siemens, Zenith Computers,
Finolex, etc. Regular interaction is maintained with the industries for a constant update
of the fast changing industrial scenario.
The Electrical section of the department handles the Power-house and the Electrical
Maintenance works at the Institute.
Department has
also successfully designed and conducted a one-week course on Electrical
Safety for transhipper technician and two days programme on
"Introduction to PLC" for Industry personnel. The
department staff also conducts training
and examinations for the Institute of Maritime Studies, Community
Polytechnic Wing of the institute and the ITI trainees.
The department plans to offer specialization in a few more fields in the near future
and training programmes on introduction to Digital technology and Microprocessors, EPROM
programming and PCB fabrication as per industry requirements.
